Albina Onay graduated from the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2022. During her university education, she worked in the fields of printmaking and lithography. In 2012, she received the Nuri İyem Painting Award.
The artist’s primary area of interest is the distinction between reality and memory. The merging of different experiences creates an illusion shaped by memory. In her works, she brings together events that have happened or could have happened within the realm of recollection. She seeks to reveal a personal sense of time and space that connects the past with the present. She observes the potential of events to transform from ordinary historical narratives into literary narratives with branching meanings and accidental contextual shifts. In this direction, she explores her interest in the concepts of time, memory, and the unconscious through texture, combining these ideas with a personal perception of past and present.
The rich creative analysis that emerges from the interaction of oppositions and contradictions constitutes the artist’s main source of motivation.
