Kemal Özen, çalışmalarında genel olarak toplumsal gerçekliğin oluşumunu irdeler. Kimliklerin oluşumunu, geleneksel rollerin etkisi ile gündelik hayatta ortaya çıkan durumlar üzerine edindiği izlenimleri ve bilgileri çalışmalarına aktarır. Sanatçı “iyi çocukları” kışkırtır onlara farklı perspektifler sunar. Sosyal yalnızlık, gündelik hayat parodileri ve vahşetin ortaya çıkma şekilleri yapıtlarında sıkça yer verdiği konulardır. Kişisel anılarını da günlük defteri gibi görsel kodlarla çalışmalarında yer veren Özen, mutlak mutluluğun hiçbir zaman var olmadığı gezegenimizde, trajikomik hale gelen durumları, normalleştirdiğimiz berbat olaylarla harmanlayarak resim aracılığıyla bir kez daha kendimizi sorgulamayı hatırlatır.
 

Kemal Özen examines the formation of social reality in his works. He transfers the formation of identities, the impressions and knowledge he gained on the situations that occur in daily life with the effect of traditional roles. The artist provokes the “good guys” and offers them different perspectives. Social loneliness, parodies of daily life, and the emergence of violence are the subjects he frequently covers in his works. Özen, who also combines his personal memories with visual codes such as a diary, reminds us to question ourselves once again through painting by blending the tragicomic situations with the terrible events we normalize on our planet where absolute happiness never exists.
