Gülcan Şenyuvalı makes paintings and arrangements with materials such as pen, sim, needle, yarn and fabric, which are usually considered as secondary in practices. In the production process, Şenyuvalı uses the collage technique, which she paints with hand stitching, that gives her the opportunity to rehearse and create a free space. She creates her works not by what she wants but rather through what she doesn’t want. The conceptual framework of her artistic practice concerns the question of “becoming a woman” through the tragedy of the weak and different. The artist defines her productions as depictions of identity, which are tried to be established based on gender from a social and cultural point of view.
